AEQ.
Scope of Work.
The renovation of the AEQ Office Building at 61 Cambridge Terrace focused on strengthening and modernising the property while preserving its original architectural character. The work included seismic upgrades to over 70% of the New Building Standard (NBS), a new lift, end-of-trip facilities, and refurbished interiors with open-plan offices and modern amenities. Care was taken to retain the building’s classic design features, respecting its heritage significance.
Project Outcome
The completed project successfully blends historic character with contemporary function. The building now offers enhanced safety, improved accessibility, and high-quality workspaces, making it an attractive option for tenants. Its careful restoration ensures it remains a valued part of Christchurch’s architectural landscape.
Character and Identity
Positioned adjacent to the former Warren and Mahoney offices at 65 Cambridge Terrace, the AEQ Building marks a stylistic transition in the firm's architectural approach. While it maintains the forms, scale, and materials characteristic of earlier designs, it also hints at the architectural trends of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The building's design reflects a shift towards more contemporary aesthetics while retaining a connection to its architectural lineage
